How to Plan a Surprise Baby Shower
Posted in Uncategorized on 02. Jan, 2008
A baby shower can be planned and hosted by different sets of people – the mother’s family might host a do, or friends and sisters of the mother might plan their own event. Sometimes a lucky mommy will have several showers before the baby arrives. But the best gift for the to be mommy would be to throw her a great surprise baby shower, complete with a theme, baby shower gifts, baby shower favors, and games for all.
If you think your best friend deserves a surprise shower, secrecy is the key to all preparations. Enlist the help of common friends or family members in keeping things moving along nicely. The mother’s colleagues at work can also be counted on to lend a hand in the preparations.
Make a definitive list of the people the mother will love to see at her shower. Include her office workers, friends, and her family. If you’d like to make it extra special, get in touch with her old school friends or college pals she hasn’t met in a while. She’ll love you for putting attention in the details.
Invitations must be sent some time before the shower takes place. It gives everyone time to schedule the event into their plans, and helps them plan their baby shower gifts for the happy mommy ahead of schedule.
For obvious reasons, you can’t hold the surprise event at the mother’s house. Borrow a friend’s apartment for the day, or ask her parents if you can host the event at their place. Chances are they won’t refuse.
If you’re expecting a larger gathering of guests, you might want to consider a restaurant, a park, or a hotel banquet hall for the occasion. Sure it will be pricier, but you’ll be spared all the hassles of decorating and catering.
Speaking of catering, take extra care, and keep the theme of the event in mind when deciding the menu. You can’t have too much of baby related pastries or cookies at a shower – people expect it! Bib or pacifier shaped cakes and rubber duck cookies are just some of the goodies that will look great on your shower tables.
Remember, you’re throwing a party for the mother to be, so remember to include her likes and dislikes especially in the choice of baby shower favors. If she loves all things elegant, candle shower favors might be in order. If she’s a terrific chef and has a whimsical sense of fun, a kitchen timer baby shower favor would be ideal.
Ultimately, it’s mommy’s day out! She’s the star of the show (if the shower is being held before baby is born), and all aspects of the event should maker her ecstatic!
